Fingers of God

god's hand over church
A Russian Orthodox Church in Ninilchick, Akaska, 1999

Often, the Alaskan sky is painted in shades of clear blue and accented with feathery clouds like these. I like to think that they are the hand of God blessing this little church in Ninilchick.

Ninilchick (ni-nil-chick) is a fishing village on the Kenai Peninsula, south of Anchorage, that combines the traditional with the modern -- log cabins and RV's, for instance.(Can you see the RV in the background?)

That's Mt. Redoubt in the far background, an active volcano.

wild roses

The Wild Rose

This wildflower is common all over Alaska. Iit's seed pods, or "hips" are full of vitamin C and make a nutrious tea. Rose hip honey is sweet and tasty too.
